EVENTS
As well as being known for its great food, The Chequers is also the heart of the village community in Barley and runs petanque teams on wednesdays and village cricketers visit the pub at the weekend all summer. Cyclists, bikers, classic car rallys, Morris Men and hikers are all also frequent visitors throughout the year. The Chequers also runs music nights and quiz nights to raise funds for local charities and good causes.
Petanque
The Chequers has run highly succesful petanque teams for nearly 30 years. If you would like a game there are some boules behind the bar for customers
Matches are held Wednesday evenings throughout the summer

Music Nights
Every month or two there will be a music night at The chequers. The popular singer and guitarist Paul Green recently played a mix of blues and rock.

Quiz
Every other month or so a quiz is held at The Chequers to raise funds for local charities or good causes such as "Help the Heroes" and Rays of Sunshine children's Charity.

Scouts
7th Royston (Barkway) Scouts are based in Barley and run Beavers, Cubs and Scouts packs for girls and boys from 6 to 14 years. Scout leaders often use the Chequers for their meetings and parents regularly come to the pub for a meal whilst their children are at Scouts or cubs
Beavers: 6-8 years meet Thursdays, Cubs: 8-10.5 years meet Wednesday, Scouts: 10.5-14 years meet Friday
British Legion
The Barley branch of the British Legion No BR0555 (Group 2) meet regularly at The Chequers. New members are always welcome even if they have no military background whatsoever
